While it isn't too hard to probe a shot hole and see if the pellet is still in there, there is no certainty you got them all. I wouldn't mind getting a metal detector wand to be sure all shot is removed before I or someone else breaks a tooth or their head biting into a stell pellet.

I have heard.....but not tried yet.....that you can pop a bird into the microwave for 4 seconds and it will let you know quickly if there is any shot left in it. Makes sense and I plan to try it this year.
