Default New Property: Need Advice on the Goose Pits

I just got in on a new hunting property with a couple goose pits. They're well established, and were not maintained this this year - but are certainly not way out of control. There's upland growth in the shape of an eye around the pits from where the farmer makes his passes, and it's about 3' tall. Here's my question: Should I trim all the grasses real lowaround theedges and taper it right into the height of the pit itself? - (they're no more than 8" high) One of the guys already hunted it and said birds flaired, and it's my opinion that the tall growth around the pitwas freaking the geese out - although I'm speculating, I wasn't there and it could have been any number of things. Every other goose pit I see seems to be abosolutely as low profile and un-noticeable as possible - not small "islands" in the middle of a winter wheat field.

I'm just looking for some more experienced opinions before I do something I regret.

Thanks

If you have an island in a winter wheat field then yes I would take it down to a very minimal height. Animals like geese tend to avoid areas where there natural predators could hide and ambush them without warning. Hence your tall, thick grass area in the extremely short winter wheat field. I would cut your island down as short as you can to help with that. Also when you place decoys make sure you put some in amongst the eye of grasses so the geese think it is a normal situation and doesn't stick out more.

make the blind invisible.. simple as that. if its noticeable in the rest of the field, take the weeds down and cover it with natural vegetation to make them invisible

Done deal guys, that's what I'm doing tomorrow afternoon. That was where my thoughts were, I just wanted to hear someone else say it. Thank you.
