I've started to do some reading on waterfowl hunting this Winter and I keep seeing references to hunting "potholes". What exactly are these? At fist I figured they were basically small basins of water in a field but apparently the concept goes further than that. I guess you can have potholes in lakes, rivers, and swamps also. What defines a pothole? How do you know one when you see it?
I dont know if theres any size requirements, but in swampy areas that are filled with cattails ect you will find small pockets of open water. They dont have to be very big for waterfowl to use. These are the potholes. They are in fact found in ponds, swamps, rivers, ect..
