Saw that, I personally saw one better looking drake than that in a Iowa City park that blew my mind, most gorgeous looking thing i have ever seen. It basically had the mallard colors on a pin body with pin markings...

That would be such a cool mount. Is there any other cool crosses out there?

At our local gander mountian they have a mount of a mallard/pintail cross. It's amazing looking. It has a greenish brown flourescent head with a pintail beak, narrows wings like a pintail with the irredescent blue/purple wing patch. And best of all, the long pin tail. I'd love to be the hunter that shot that.

Those are called Mule Ducks, and for my money... they are one of the prettiest ducks in the air! Even though they aren't a legit species.

On my old computer I had a bunch of pictures of hybrids that a bird collector had ammassed over the years.

He had a Redhead/mallard, pintail/woodduck, BWT/Shoveler, Gadwall/Mallard, Golden Eye/Bufflehead, all kinds of wierd stuff.

I have personally shot hybrid black ducks/mallards... not terribly uncommon, heck I think its more uncommon to kill a mature male 100% pure black duck anymore.

I agree.

BTW, I saw the first ducks of the season yesterday. It is still extremely early, but they were flying. about 6 or so black ducks in formation.

I seen that episode, I wonder how common that is. That would probably be a bird for the wall if I shot it.

Ducks are very notorious for cross breeding.
