Default getting ready for the ducks

Almost as much fun as a good morning's duck hunt is the process of getting things ready for the upcoming season. My pond seems to be coming along nicely at the moment. Here's a pic from last week; I flood it in November. Just gotta hope some ducks decide to come our way!

That pond is pretty cool. I wish I had the land or the resources to make a pond like that for duck season. What do you have planted? I can't tell if it is corn or not.

Hey SpringHill!
Good luck this season with your pond. Nothing like being able to reap the rewards of habitat management. Show us some pix when you get 'em.

It's just corn but the ducks seem to like it. Some years it takes them a couple of weeks to find it after I flood it, though last year the first ones were in 24 hours after I started pumping in the water. The only year the pond never worked as planned was when I planted tropical corn. How they could tell the difference I don't know but they wouldn't even come in and look at it. Because of some massive rains I had toplant the pond late and tried the tropical corn since it makes faster. Avoid that stuff like the plague!
