Didnt swamp the boat, no one got peppered with pellets, no one suffered muzzleblast, dog had no injuries,no "donations" too the mnr, everyone lived through the season.. everything else is icing on the cake!
I think I was right at 90 birds total, thats a little better than average for me. Probably 50%+ mallards,,variety for the rest, only shot 6 bbills which is unusual for me,, theyre having a rough time, had 1 good shoot for them and left them alone after that.
most seasons when i hunt for em i kill 150-200 birds .... geese/ducks ..... but this past season was lame .... no migration worth a crap .... killed maybe 40 or so birds in the few times i went out .... but ill be watchin for em next season
This has been a slow year. I have only shotaround 60 ducks so far. Usually I shoot around 100. I don't goose hunt specifically, so my goose kills are mostly ones called in while duck hunting or pass bys, or the occational stalk. I shot around 10 this year.
This year was pretty poor compared to most. Just got home from the last hunt of the year...didn't even fire the gun. Cold must have moved the birds elsewhere. Talked to one guy who hunted the big WMA nearby and killed 9 with his two sons. He said it sounded like a war all morning. Guess thats where they went....Had two guys in AM set up on top of me yesterday, then two different ones do it in the PM. I have never been so mad and so dumbfounded at someone elses lack of courtesy in my life. Ruined the whole day.
I digress. A good season is usually upwards of 75-100 birds. This year...heck I haven't hardly kept track, its something like this though...
8 blacks (I know this number is exact)
~20mallards
8 teal
~20 wood ducks
1 sprig
2 widgeon
1 mottled
3 jacks
2 bills
3 geese (just happened by)
and a sawbill just for kicks.
Just didn't get birds until, oh yesterday, and the season closes tmw. C'est la vie.
