Default What to plant in my pond for waterfowl?

What kind of a underwater plant should I plant to attract waterfowl in shallow areas of my pond. (Pond is not quite full yet) I will have 2 areas that are shallow and would like to attract some ducks and geese.

Are you talking about planting it now or this summer? I've been doing ***anese millet for the past 4 years and it hasn't worked out yet so I'll be doing something different for next year.

Flooding a feild, planting food, or heck even baiting won't bring the ducks to your place like a magnet. You need to be where there are ducks in the first place. Many people around my state have found that out the hard way. Now, if you have a few birds in your area, having food will hold them there, and keep them coming back.

If you are not planning on draining and flooding each season, then I'd look at some form of wild rice or hydrilla.

The biggest problem I'm having with the ***anese millet is songbirds. They eat it up before season can get here. So this year I planted it later and we had an early frost[:@] I usually kill a few ducks on it anyway, but I think it could be better. Don't know if everybody has the same problem with the millet or not. If you're always gonna have water then millet is not for you anyway.

I would drain it, or at least lower the water and plan some moist soil plants or a rice variety. If this is big pond, plant corn and then flood it when the ducks are down there.
