Default Shotgun bore care?

My "Clean oil-filmed barrel before shooting?" post has not received any replies. Let me ask my question in another way.

I like to take good care of my shotguns so they last a long time. I am concerned about what is the proper care for the interior bore of the shotgun. What do you do to take good care of your shotgun and assure that the bore does not rust or otherwise corrode? Is rust or corrosion a concern in the first place if you keep your shotgun, as I do, in a clean reasonably dry location?

Default RE: Shotgun bore care?

Unless you are shooting a older Browning shotgun , I would not worry about the bore .

Outside of the barrel , yes .

I NEVER oil the bore during the season

I pull the choke tube out , clean the threads , grease the threads and reinsert it .
Then clean out any excess grease out of the bore
Never a drop of oil inside the bore .

I changed barrels on the 870 to get choke tubes many years back .
Other than that , the 1970's 870 barrel is still in perfect shape ..............................expect for the scratchs from that barbed wire fence

Most of the cleaning solvents have a rust preventative chemical in them anyway, so you shouldn't put gun oil down the bore of any gun.

If you want a shiny barrel then run a hoppes bore snake down it once or twice and that will do the trick. If I am correct it already has the cleaning agents in it.
