Default Flying Ducks, Bad News.

Just curious what you fellow waterfowlers think the survival rate is on Ducks hit with shot that still fly away? Had one that was hit, lost a few feathers, was slower than the othersflying away, also flew off by itself away from the direction as the other ducks, but did make it out of the marsh. What percentage of these ducksheal up andsurvive to see another day?

I think a lot get superficial wounds but a BUNCH of ducks get hit and lost and a bunch do get gut shot and do die....hard telling...must be around 50% though that do get hit probably die...

Very good question very hard to answer. A few years ago I found a goose in my chicken house driveway that had been shot but could still fly a little and that would be my only known case but I would say it happens quite a bit. I did kill it btw. I often wonder if as many ducks/geese die this way as they do from eating lead shot (when it was legal).

not to disagree with ya carp but im thinkin the martality rate would be closer to 75% .... i have shot them and watched them drop out as far as 300 yrds .... and have found many birds in public area floatin dead in secluded coves .... also add that im sure alot of birds fly off ... land then stiffin up and get sore and predators take em out ...... figured id throw this out ... im not paranoid but im gonna be cautious shootin cripples this year due to bird flu
