Default Shot my first Sandhill crane! Any recipes?

I went out this morning for opening weekend here in Oklahoma. It was the best day of duck hunting I've had since I started several years ago. Maybe it's my new Mossberg 935 and 3.5" shells. Anyways, I've never brought home more than one duck at a time. Today I got six! I was sitting in my blind and a sandhill crane flew over. I blasted him three times. He crashed down in the water, which was very shallow, and started running away! A couple more rounds slowed him down. This thing is enormous. He took forever to clean too. Has anybody ever shot one of these things? What are some good recipes? Thanks! Matt

Congrats on the crane......something to be said about shooting a 4ft tall bird.
As for recipes, just breast out the cranes and keep the breast meat. Any recipe calling for duck or goose will work with the crane. I like them done in the slowcooker(low and slow) with some root vegetables, a can of stewed tomatoes. Throw in a small can of tomato paste towards the end to thicken it all up. Serve over a bed of broad noodle. Simple.

Congrats on your limit and your first Sandhill Crane. I have never shot one before. Not too many down here where I hunt. Sorry I don't have a recipe, but I bet you it would taste pretty good in some duck jerky or duck chili.

Dude congrats on the limit and the crane. Id love to shoot a bird that huge with a shotgun. Im not so sure that a man is meant to eat a crane though, but whatever keeps you alive man good job.
