Default Getting a 12G Pump

Hey guys i wanted to start wing hunting, pheasant, duck, turkey. I want to get a remington 870 12g pump. Ive really reasearched them but im having a hard time finding a barrel size. I think id like a shorter barrel.. Like the turkey 21 inch. Any recommendations? on a barrel length that works for these 3 birds

My dad has a remington 870 12 gauge. It is a 26" barrel and we use it for waterfowl. He liked it until he got a 28" on his SBE I. I see that you like the smaller barrels but, I recommend for these three birds a 26"-28" barrel. These are what my family and I have used forever and we like these sizes.

Just some advice.

Yah I found a local Turners that is selling the 870 express synthetic 12g 28" for 259.99. I found a 26" at another store for 350. I think im going with the 28 and i'll have some $$ left over for some other goodies. THanks guys

The 28" should work very good for you. I hope it all works out for you.

I'd stay away from a remmington 870 They aren't built like they use to be, 3 1/2" shells seam to stick and they rust pretty easy. Id recommend a camo version of the benelli nova. Nice gun, cheep and easy to clean and the powder coat finish is a great camo pattern and it cant rust. don't get the black matte finish one, rust big time

Browning BPS Stalker with a 24" barrel if you can find one. Had an 870 for a while, all I had was problems. Owned a Benelli Nova for a while, had problems. Owned a few BPS's over the years, not a glitch with any of 'em.

To be honest, all of those suggestions sound fine, but if i were you, even though you are new getting into hunting, id just go ahead and get a autoloading gun and forget the pump idea. I love pumps, i grew up on them but for the pheasant and waterfowl you will wish u had an auto gun. Just something to think about before you lay down 300 bucks.

I wouldn't go with anythign less than a 26" barrel. I have a friend with an 870 and he hates it. Nothing but problems with it. If you're wanting a good inexpensive waterfowl gun that's good for turkey too, I'd recommend the Mossberg 500. I shot one for over 10 years and it has NEVER jammed or caused me any problems. You can get one at Wal-Mart for around $200. Sometimes, they even have them cheaper. They're $159 at one of the Wal-Mart's here. They come with three chokes too. Great gun. If you want to spend more money on the best pump on the market (my opinion), get the Benelli Nova. Around $320 here in Oklahoma. IT's an awesome gun. If you've got money to blow, get an automatic. I have a Mossberg 935. I haven't hunted with it yet, but I've put about 100 rounds through it. I'm pretty pleased with it. I got it for $439 at Bass Pro. Matt

I second Rich Baker. The nova is not only in a reasonable price range but it also a great gun!
