Does anyone know if neck danding geese is still be done? I heard that in some cases neck bands would freeze up and become to heavy for the birds and end up killing them, As well I havn't seen as many as years ago.
We have killed a few but the ones we did were old birds the last one was 3 years ago and the bird was 12 years old. Then last year I saw one and it made me wonder if what I heard was true??
Surprizing to me i killed two snows last year, both with plastic red & white neck bands, and leg jewelery as well. They came from maryland, and i shot them in the western flyway of calif. vangunsmith

I talked to a conservation officer last year who banded snow geese. He said most orginaizations have stopped to a degree using neck bands becuase guys were keying on the yellow or red bands on the necks. They were getting extremely high kill rates on those neck banded birds. I think they still do it but keep the colors more closely to the bird feather to keep from keying on them birds.
