Default Lens selection????

I have a Nikon D40X with an 18-55 lens. I want to purchase a zoom lens but there are way too many choices out there.

I can't afford the f2-2.8 lenses and think I'll be just fine with a more affordable 5.6 lens.

I guess that is question #1, would I be ok with the 5.6 lens??? Most of my pictures will be taken in good light.

Then there is question #2....I'm looking at a Sigma 70-300 f4-5.6. I was just about ready to pull the pin and order it when I stumbled across a Sigma 28-300 f3.5-6.3. If the 6.3 isn't that big of a deal, I could really get by with just this one lens.

Most of my photography is "hero shots" and scenery.

Your thoughts?????

PS...I'm leaning towards the 70-300
