I really don't think you can have it both ways. I'm a FCP user, but if I were you I'd look into Adobe software. The reason I'm saying that is because the suite they have with Premiere, After Affects, and whatever their dvd authoring software is (sorry, can't think of the name) all work together pretty easily. You won't have to worry about patches and that if you move up to any pro app though. You're talking about jumping from a consumer editing program to a professional one, so there's going to be a learning curve involved. Look around on forums that have a lot of info about pro editing software before you take the leap.

Yep, if you're staying with PC (Which you are seeing you just bought that very nice system), go with Premiere. Try to get CS3 as the integration between it and all other Adobe apps is pretty impressive. After Effects, Encore, Photoshop, Flash, Illustrator, 3d Studio Max, etc ALL blend seemlessly together and can create quite the ultimate package. Now granted, you may only have Premiere and that's fine, but down the road you may want to add one with some other apps.

Don`t overlook SONY Vegas Platnum Pro.....I think the newest edition is # 8.

There is not much you cannot do with this software, and for ME, it is the easiest to use.

Final Cut Pro I would have to say is a great editing software. It might seem hard to understand and use at first but with a little pratice, you will come to love the workflow.

Now. iMovie is not a highend editing program but it is very easy to understand and I have seen some great final projects created from start to finish using it. Its a big program, just in a small package : )

Come to think of it, it really does not matter the program you use. Its just a tool. FCP is powerful and can create amazing final projects but unless you take the time to learn and play with the options, you will wast you time trying to edit but that being said... its well worth the cost and time to use.

I'm not much of a PC guy anymore. To many problems, if you are using a PC. Think about buying a Mac in the near future. It might cost
more but you will see its worth every dime. Well that's my belief.

Take care and I hope this has some value.
