As I suggest to everyone that asks me this question: "Buy a SLR" You'll never regret it. Its the only camera that will allow you to do everything from wide angle landscapes to portraits to wildlife.

Nikon just came out w/a greatentry level DSLR and its well priced.

SLR=single lens reflex. It is a digital camera, that resembles a 35mm film cameras. These types of cameras allow you to shoot with multiple lens in digital format.

I've owned dozens of 35mm film SLR'sand 35mm point and shoot cameras, and I still do. I also own numerous point and shoot digitals cameras. I just recently purchased a Nikon D-80 SLR with a 18x135 zoom lens. I don't think I'll ever shoot another roll of 35mm film, the rest of my life. A digital SLR is the only way to go.

Check out the NIkon D-40X. It is a very goodbeginner digital SLR. Outfits for this camera should range between 700-1000 dollars. Canon make very good digitals SLR,also. Get a digital SLR with a zoom lens, you won't be sorry, you will be taking great pictures right outof the box.
