Default Another Editing Question

I've got a rough draft, so to speak. When I click to preview, the computer automatically edits the sound (which takes forever). Then, when I do finally preview the tape, the scenes where my buddy and I shoot deerare all messed up. You hear the bow and the hit, but AFTER you see the deer get hit. How can I fix the sound to match the footage? Right now, I just have a bit of sample music covering up the mismatched pieces.
