Can anyonerecommend a good video tripod for a canon XL1.

I'll tell you one not to buy. Any thing from Merkury. There customer service SUCKS!
I have e-mailed them no less than 5 times for a part and have gotten no reply over 3 weeks.

Check this link out,our company is planning to purchase these we have done some diggingand found that for the money these are well worth the price.As soon as we receive them I'll let you know for sure but from what I hear you can't go wrong.

I use Sachler tripods for my business and filming hunting spots and cutouts. They are a little pricey, but worth the $.
