Default Beginner Help Please

Some of you might laugh but I am not crazy into hunting but I got a pellet/BB gun for Christmas. It can shoot both pellets, and BBs. I am looking to hunt small birds, would I be able to kill a bird with this. (I know I will probably have to shoot it in the head to kill it) I don't have any information on the gun at this moment but I am not sure what the technical name for this is but basically, you have to pump it before you can shoot. So it takes like 1 second to load, 15-20 seconds to pump and then softy off then I am ready so it takes about 20 seconds. Sometimes I can get as close as 10 feet to the birds and as far away as 40 feet. Should I use pellets or BBs? What other tips do you suggest? Thank-you for your time.

Like I said and you can sure tell when you read the above that I am a beginner with all of this so please don't laugh to much.
