Question What is the best TYPE of Shotgun for bird hunting?

There have been many "whats the best shotgun for bird hunting" threads but I really think they have missed the mark. Firstly they never state which birds the OP is thinking about hunting. Their are many different sizes from Geese that give the biggest turkeys a run for their money to little quail that can barely make one bite let alone a whole meal.
So I ask "what is the best TYPE of shotgun for bird hunting"
Also what cal.*or should I say Guage?* for what size birds? Are 20 gauge ideal for Geese? or is that where the 12 gauge steps in?

12 , 20 , and 10s will all work well... a 12 would be my 1st choice then 10 for geese

I have an old auto loader in 18 gauge but I also realize that 16 and 28 are also out there. To bad I forgot them when doing the poll

Ohh well, nothing can be done about it now.

I only asked because an 18 gauge is very rare, I dont even know if any manufacturers still make them anymore (maybe special order).
