Default South Dakota Report

Hunted in Winner this past weekend. Wehave been hunting the same farm for the past 8 years. Tough hunt this weekend. There are NO crops out in the Winner area. Our group didn't limit either Saturday or Sunday. For comparison, last year 14 of us were done in a little over an hour on Saturday and 2.5 hours on sunday.

Bird counts are up 9% from last year but the crops hurt us. If anyone is planning on coming for a hunt may want to try topostpone for a few weeks if possible, until the farmers can get in the fields.

Hey Mez, we are encounting the same over here towards the town of clark. we have 12 in our group hunting on some privite ground we haven't killed our limit in 3 days. today is our last day and 3 of the guys went home this morning.I think our bird total for 3 days is right around 37 or 38. This is the third year we have been here. This year though just to much corn up and a lot of water standing in the fields. Good luck to all. Jerry

Agreed, we hunt up by Gettysburg area and there is no corn out yet. Made it quite hard. Able to get 35 of the 42 needed on Saturday and 20 before having to leave early on Sunday so not all bad. When corn is out though, watch out!

Pretty common sentiment in all of the hunters I talked too over the weekend. The only guys that were shooting limits were those shooting released birds. Everyone hunting wild birds were not seeing what they had in past years. Look out when the crops get out though. Should be fun!!

I hunted opening weekend with my family in Gregory Co. and we limited out both days - no released birds either!

Our group hunted in Ipswich (35 miles west of Aberdeen). This is our 12th year hunting the same farm, and we limited out, but had to work really hard to do it. Only 20% of the bean crop out and not one stalk of corn harvested.

Hunted SD (Hand Co.)for 8 of last 10 days or so with a party of 8-18 and we didn't have a problem filling any day! IMO the best year ever in SD and the best hunting is yet to come!

I've heard the same things about crops still in fields in Iowa and Nebraska too.
