Default Shot for forest grouse?

Picking up a new single shot .410 for rabbits, hare, etc..
My sled, squirrel, rabbit snowshoe hare dog has decided he wants to be a bird dog as well.

What shot recommendations do you all have for the .410?

It's a H&R Pardner single shot with a full choke.

I second the #6, I use 3 inch shells. Only a couple more weeks until grouse opens here in Idaho, my lab and I can't wait.

Sept. 1st. My sled dog, Wilson, can't wait either and he doesn't even know it.

I agree. You could even go smaller then that if you wanted to. Grouse are pretty wimpy birds but are damn good eating!! There my favorites.

Got that straight Mr. Shultz!
Every Sunday before heading back home we eat the fruits of our labor, and I make a mean "Spagetti ala Eddy".
Take a trip with Magic and GregH for some Bear / Deer / and Grouse hunting you'll never forget.
