Default Going on my first quail hunt. Advice.

I am going on my first quail hunt Thursday. I am going to take my Mossberg 500 12ga. I have shot dove before but never quail so what choke and load should I use. I was thinking of using an improved cylinder with 7 1/2 shot. I have a half choke as well but it doesn't shoot well for me.I shoot clays a lot and usually use a full choke.

Any advice will be appreciated.

I think your choice of IC with 71/2 will be fine...............my only advise would be to concentrate on one bird at a time when the covey gets up.

Hey Ruger,

Good luck on the first hunt!

My Advice 1-5 (1 being most important)

1. HAVE FUN
2. Dont get upset when you miss
3. Kill a bird or two
4. When dog is on point or you know when a bird may get up, go ahead and be ready...Suprisingly, it will help.
5. Post some pics!

If your hunting over dogs then most of your shots should be fairly close. I would use a skeet choke if you have it butI/C will work too. I prefer 8 or 9 shot for the close in work of quail hunting. The main thing is to have fun and enjoy the experience.

Thanks for the advice guys. i was going to take it and try the I/C with 7 1/2 shot but due to rain the hunt was postponed till the 4th. That may turn out better for me though I'm getting married on the 8th so I might need a good stress reliever. I'll keep everyone posted on how it goes.
