Default Pheasant hunting with a Horse

Hey Im from KS and was wondering if it was legal to hunt for pheasants on horseback? I couldnt find any laws regarding this...just thought it would be pretty cool. Imagine how much ground you could cover in a day.....

WOW - that sounds very dangerous. Not sure if it's legal or not - either way it sounds like a very bad idea.

I bet it is legal. Look at all of the pointer field competitions that are done from horseback. I think a bunch of the competitions are held in KS.

deer hunter, it is legal and it is a blast to do that. However you will need to have sifficient amount of grounds and also some pretty safe horses. I do it every year up in nebraska hunting for praire chickens and also Pheasants, and quail down there in kansas. If you really want to try it out, try to attend an AKC pointing dog field trial. It is held all over the US.

I've always wanted to try hunting off horseback. Not packing in, but hunting. Sounds like a blast. Guess I need to learn how to ride a horse again.

most state laws only prohibit motor vehicles, horses are usually allowed. a tenesee walker is the perfect horse for hunting, their gate is different and makes wlking more smooth. the tough thing is getting a horse used to gunfire enough to shoot off it. i've been on horses that have held perfectly still as i fired a rifle, but it's hard to find one that good. riding, then getting off to shoot is the best idea (running pointing dogs of course). then the horse only has to be okay with gunfire at a distance.

using a horse hunting is a great experience. it does add some extra safety precautions to the list though. i would never do it excusively, but now and then it's fun.

Yes, that is a dream of mine to have a horse to follow my pointers with and a place to do it.
