NY Buy birds and Release...

hey guys.. weird question here. My buddy has 150+ acres upstate new york, he has alot of Grouse up there.. i would like to possibly somehow buy 3-5 dozen quail/pheasant/turkeys and release them on his property so its better for furture years of hunting. any ideas? anyone sell birds here in NY? thanks

I know how you feel. i live in ny too, and am also looking for pheasants. there is a pheasant-raising program in the dec website to promote the population of pheasants. they will give you free pheasants to raise, but then your land will be open to any pheasant hunters. hope this helps!

go to mcmurray hatchery online and buy the birds in the early spring. you can buy day old chicks to adults. they will ship them to your house. i live in eastern mass. and had 50 day old quail shipped to my house. just make sure that they can fly before you release them because the predators will have a field day on them. even if you get them young they will still be domesticated but they might have a better chance of survival if you raise them in a big cage. the problem i find with releasing birds is that they are used to having food given to them and they dont know how to find food on there own so you might want to either plant some food or try a game feeder.

First you will need to check your state laws on it before you get anybirds so that you will comply to what the state may or may not require. After you have done that check out eggbid.com and see what they have to offer. In the spring it would be normal to see lots of young chicks on there. Good Luck to you. Also you may want to check a couple of those farm raised birds that they release for hunters as you may get a deal on them as well. I would like to add though that most of the birds I have gotten would nest and lay but not sit on them. I hope you have better luck in that area..

You will need domestic game bird breeders license & shooting preserve license if you plan to hunt them (cheap its worth getting it) sept 1 thru march 31 i believe.
