Default Best 12 ga. shot shell for dove...

OK... I know this has been hashed around before, and I've already gone through the search mode. But things do change and the manufacturers come out with new loads, shells, etc.

The question:

If cost is no object, what is the best 12 ga. shell you can buy for dove hunting...

(and by the way... I know the Wally World cheapos will kill them dead... IF you hit them!!)

If you really want to waste alot of money for Dove shells, the heavy shot dove loads are hard to beat. IMHO, gun club loads in 7.5 are the best for doves.

I cant remember the company that makes them but a 7.5 X 9 shot duplex, 1 1/8 oz load has spelled death for many of doves on my plate. Nowadays i just shoot 1 1/8 load of 8shot cheapies from walmart. LIke you said anything will kill them if you can hit them.

The load that patterns best out of you gun/choke combination and is comfortable for you to shoot. It's as simple as that. Don't get caught up in all the promotional hype that the manufactuors put out.
If you are keeping your shots within what is reasonable distance (that's under 45 yards ,preferably 40 & under) just about any 7 1/2 target load would fill the bill.My personal choice would be a 1or 1 1/8 ozsporting clay load. Most of these travel between 1250-1300fps are comfortable to shoot.

The shell I have been using for the past 4 years is Remington "Heavy Dove Load" 7 1 1/8oz. They really are the best and at only $3.39 a box you can't beat it (Academy Sports). Last year I shot 20 of these shells in 30 minutes and had my 15 birds. My personal best!!

This is a link to the dove hunts I've done in the past.

You can kill a dove with anything; the best load will be one that is shot at the right time. so many people at dove shoots try to get them 100yds away. try shooting with a skeet or IC about 15-35 yds I shoot a 410 with a 1/2once load number 8
gets them just fine
