Saturday morning I called in 2 birds on a winter wheat field and ended up shooting this mature bird after going back and forth with him for 45 minutes at only 40 yards. I had him at 40 yards but he was just barely on the other side of the top of the field. He gobbled and drummed like crazy before getting too curious. Finally he came within 35 yards and I hammered him. 21.5 pounds, 10 inch beard, and 1 1/8th inch spurs.
Yeah, I know what you mean. Ive been out 11 times this this sping and this was the first good bird Ive had under 40 yards. [:'(] Hopefully it will get better this week in Indiana.
