Default Guys who have land that hunt hunt everyone else's

Anybody deal with these kind of people, folk who have umpteen hundred acres or more who don't hunt there land but everyone else's. I'm out scouting turkey's tonight at a spot that is way off the beaten path , you know miles from nowhere and I here a guy calling for turkeys with a slate call. I approach him ( by the way the land I'm on is my father-in-laws who dosen't allow hunting except for me and a guest) and it's this guys dressed in camo. He takes off his mask and it's a fellow who I've ran into before who thinks his S--T don't stink and owns 500+ acres of his own. I ask him what he's doing here and get the usual looking for turkeys. ( mind you he dosen't let anybody hunt his land at all) . I ask him to leave he says he got permission to be there, I know he's lying but won't admit it. Then he tells me that the owner wants everyone off the land except for him and said he's acting as the owners ( my father-in-law) agent, and tells me to get off the land because he's a police SGT and he'll have me arrested. So I leave without argument and call my fatherin law who in turn calls the police. The guy was gone when we went back up and he wasen't at his house either. People like this , who use there status as a police officer to do what they want should loose there badge. It's pretty sad when it comes to this. Don't get me wrong there are alot of cops that like myself that are top notch and don't abuse there power in any way. I don't mean to,sound cocky but it makes me mad. Thanks for lending an ear.

Give him a load a #6's from about 80 yards and you want have to worry about him coming back. Some police officer think they rule the world because they are an officer but they are no different than you and me when they takeoff there badge.

In my opinion, knowing what you knew, you should have said:

Ok, right now, we are going to call the warden/DNR and your father-in-law and get this sorted out RIGHT NOW. Police officer or not, it doesn't matter, this would be a wildlife officer's jurisdiction, NOT a police officer. I would have pulled out my cell and we would have got it taken care of RIGHT then. But that is just me[:@]

Oh yah,
how does he own 500 acres on an officer's salary?? (I think they should make more for what they do)

It's as simple as that. Carry your cell phone and start dialing next time, and see how quickly he changes his tone. He'll probably keep doing the same thing until he gets caught in his own trap!

I know a few people like that. They have permission to hunt everywhere, or they own their own land, but still wander onto properties that they know they don't have permission to be on. I had a couple of guys blow a turkey setup last year with three turkeys working. They claimed they didn't know whose land was whose. But I know better than to believe them, as they pull that kind of stuff all of the time and don't hunt in the most ethical of ways.

He had to have been lying. Even if he WAS a police officer, he wouldn't be making those claims about arresting you knowing all the time that HE was in the wrong. Call his bluff and call your father-in-law and the DNR police That'll shut him up and cause him some true concerns. If he really is a police officer, he's toast.

Until a few years ago, I always had to hunt on public land in MD because there aren't enough turkeys around where I live and I didn't have permisiion in the western part of the state. The locals out there were all killing the longbeards BEFORE the season opened on the public land and then saving their own land for the real season. Talk about frustrating. I was told about this by more than one of the people actually doing it!

Guys the facts are that not only is a officer he's a SGT, those guys have all kind of juice, he's a police officer supervisor, I know for a fact that he was out of his juridiction anyway but guys who have been in law enforcement for twenty years or more tend to know people and have impeckable reputations throught the county. As for him owning 500 acres some was handed down to him by his family and around here Police SGT's make major money way over 80,000 a year without overtime. Put it this way he's best friends with the the LT. in the DNR so even if I was to do something it would never get anywhere and probably put me on desk duty for years. It really sucks, but I'm not willing to risk getting black balled at work for it, which would happen. I talked to my father in law today and he made a complant to the sheriff's dept. We will see what happends.
