Default How does cold weather affect turkeys?

OK guys, I'm a real novice when it comes to this turkey huntin' thing, but I'm trying to get my feet wet. I've got a friend here in Southeast Missouri who owns about 140 acres with several nice turkeys being seen daily in the pastures, and I think I wanna take a shot at bagging one of 'em.

Problem is, it was in the mid '70s last week, and this morning it was below freezing, with the temp hovering around 30. What should I expect in the morning from the turkeys? Will they stay on the roost longer? Be less vocal? Anyone had any experience with extreme cold snaps like this?

In my experience the only thing that really changes is they are alot less vocal then the normally would be in warmer weather. other then that i think the would act normal.

I shot mine this morning when the temp was hovering in the upper twenties, they seemed pretty vocal too I thought.

I hunted this morning in central MO and I only heard 1 gobble. With the high winds, if you didn't spot a bird, you were pretty much out of luck. Tough hunting.

In general, I hear far less gobbling in snow, rain, windy and cold weather. However, I have had success in the past on a morning where it was snowing (with 3" already on the ground), VERY windy and temps were in the 20's. I actually called a gobbler downhill a killed him on such a morning -- so it can be done, but the odds aren't as good.
