Default Leaving for the Youth Hunt here in PA

Heading to Bradford county for a youth hunt this weekend. A buddy called me up and asked if I would come call for his son this year. Of course I couldn't say NO. I Hope you all have a GREAT weekend, and if anybody else is going this weekend may you have a SAFE and PROSPEROUS hunt. Pat

Pat , ill be headed out here in westmoreland county , the rain and cold front coming in might play a small role in the bird movement , but i hope not , i have 2 pretty good areas setup that i can hunt tommorow. Next weekend if i dont score tommorow ill head to my camp to hunt public land birds in the allegheny national forest in McKean Co. Goodluck im sure you should be able to call one in for your buddies son.

Well today the Youth hunt didnt leave me fairing ne better then usual at the farm. In the morning i setup on a field and had 5 birds gobbling surrounding it , did some light calling , but nothing showed... decided to move at like 9 , and did see one bird take off flying in a field seperate from the one i was in , about 400-500 yards away.there was little gobbling here after flydown!

Next i tried another farm , the one that i have been posting that the birds r just too smart, well it was now about 10AM and i walked down over the hill , thats when i heard a roaring gobble , followed by 3 more , all spread out. i had 2 birds up high in a huge field ontop of a ridge , one in a creek bottom opposite to me, and one down the valley that sounded pretty far. well i called lightly for the remainder of the hunt with no response to hen calls , but everytime a crow or chicken would CAW , the gobblers would all go nuts , but the day wasnt a total waste , i did call a young hen into about 30 yards , and watched her feed until 1145 before she went on her merry way.

I just have no idea how to hunt these birds , they have tooooooo many tricks under thier wing, so i might jsut give up on em , and hunt new places.
