4's 5's or 6's, I prefer 5 shot and with 2 3/4 inch your range is probably 35-40 yards max. There are alot of variables when it comes to turkey hunting. It would be hard to tell you everything. I would have to say that patience has probably killed more turkeys than anything. If you have called and he responded you can rest assured that he has a really good idea where you are. Since you are new to the game then probably the less calling you do the better. I might suggest a friction call of some sort for you. I started with a Lynch box call when I was 9 hunting by my fathers side. 28 years later I'm still learning. Listen to the hens in the morning and learn their language. I've got to tell you that about the time you have a big ole tom come in behind you a sound off from close range your heart will jump out of your chest and your skin will just tingle. You can't beat it. Good luck!
Well, I have an old Remington 11-48, and it shoots 2 3/4 inch 4's very nicely. But, every gun is different, and the only way to know is to shoot em all and find out.
