Turkey Hunting Whether it's spring or fall doesn't matter to this bunch. Great tips on calling, bustin flocks, using blinds and more.

Default Got my first turkey ever! 2nd year hunter

Hey!!!

I hunt state land in Ohio and got a 15lb. Jake second day of season yesterday!!!

This is my second year and fortunately, my hunting buddy has been doing this a long time at this particular forest.

With an hour left to hunt he called and three gobblers went off across a bowl on top of ridge across from us. We hiked to the top and worked our way to within about 100-150 yards of them and he had me setup near the ridge.

He called from about 30 yards behind me for about 5 minutes but no gobbles. Then all of a sudden i heard the leaves crunching just over the other side of ridge.

Two jakes had been on their way the whole time but not calling. As soon as I saw his head and beard come over crest, I let him have it at 18 yards.

It was awesome, and I am going to get my second tag this week and I'll be out again this weekend for more. Now I am really hooked and all this hard work paid off!

Will post pics when I get em back.

i hunt at Tar Hollow State Forest in Chillicothe. I live near Dayton though. About an hour and a half drive to there for me.

My buddy has been hunting turkeys there for twenty years, so he knows it well but we focus on just a few areas in the park.

It is not an easy place to turkey hunt. It took him four years to get his first bird, then ten more years to get his second, then he went on a hot streak and has gotten one or two almost every year since.

So I feel lucky to have gotten one my second year there.
