Turkey Hunting Whether it's spring or fall doesn't matter to this bunch. Great tips on calling, bustin flocks, using blinds and more.

Default Mouthcall Purring

I have read posts about purring and advice on how to do it, but I have another question.

I can flutter my tongue fine and gargle also, but when I put the call in, it is like there is not enough room to flutter tongue anymore and I can't do it.

Do you have to move the call back farther than normal in your mouth when you do this or say a keyword?

Also, when you gargle, are you making a particular noise or saying a keyword?

I can get a horrible vibrating gargle sound, but thats about it

I can do the fluttering lip thing with decent results but have heard others do it much better

Thanks for any advice in advance...

Don't feel so bad, i can make some great calls with a box call & slate call but when it comes to useing my Primos mouth calls i sound more like a duck then a turkey and i have a friend who has been hunting for years makes his mouth calls sound like a real tom..

Just keep working at it and buy a few different mouth calls until you get the feel and sound your looking for. I have been through a few mouth calls already and im still now where near where i want to sound like a tom..

Practice! Practice!! Practice!!!

Fluttering the tounge has always worked for me but I think I put my calls back in my mouth firther than a lot of guys I know and none of them can purr either.

I found out last night that instead of trying to "gargle", i actually kind of acted like i was SLOWLY trying to clear my throat "almost like when trying to get up phlegm to spit" it worked.

Sounds gross, sorry... but it actually made made the gargle sound and caused my tongue to flutter also. Within a few minutes of experimenting, I was purring!!! It sounded much better than the lip flutter i had done before. I just need to practice it now to get the purr everytime.
