Turkey Hunting Whether it's spring or fall doesn't matter to this bunch. Great tips on calling, bustin flocks, using blinds and more.

Default Rhino/ Nitro Combo?

Who uses it? Is it worth the cash? I have an 870 supermag, scope, and remington ventilator choke tube. It works well, but I have money burning a hole in my pocket! I want to know if this will make my gun that much better of a turkey thumper. Thanks

I have shot an 870 SM for the last several years with the Ventilator choke and Hevi-Shot, then last year I broke down and bought the Rhino, simply put its unbelievable, I know the Rhino chokes are pricey, but wow do they ever pattern good, I don't know what Nitro-Hevi Shot and Rhino have going on but they definately have it figured out. Go for it, you won't regret it.

Like Strut, I have and use the Rhino choke along with Nitro hevishot turkey loads as well. Let's put it this way, I'm sold and staying with this combo. Here is Nitro Company's web site listed bellow. You can also buy the Rhino chokes directly from them as well.

Its the Nike of turkey hunting marketing... JUST DO IT!!!

We picked up Rays shells about half way through season lastyear (Nitro) and additionally went too his house/shop while turkey hunting nearby in souther MO. He and his wife are quite a pair! Shes the numbers and hes the tester and loader!

But honestly the stuff is THAT DAMNED GOOD! I'll put it this way, I killed two toms in MO the first two weeks of season. One at a laser ranged 50yds in the woods and another at a laser ranged 64 yds across a pasture. One of our salesman killed two birds at over 70 yards each with his 3.5" Gold with Nitros. We were all shooting the 2 1/4oz load of 4,5 & 7s through various tubes. I have an old original TruGlo (not the newer cheaper StrutStoppers) that is awesome in my 870 SuperMag with the triplex Nitros. We had been shooting factory Remington Hevi-Shot for a few years before. And while its good, the Nitros are THAT much better. Easy a 70-75 yard load in most any 3.5" gun with a decent choke.

As for the Rhino tubes, they are on the way too our shop and we are ALL looking forward to trying them. Ray had patterns and targets from various guns, chokes and loads in his shop and his combos are awfully convincing. I will say this, my 870 SuperMag was one in the first shipment that we recieved several years ago. I have used it for duck hunting and turkey hunting since. But now that I have it rigged with the Nitros, tube and a red dot scope (and yes you MUST HAVE a scope with these loads as they will shoot farther than you can with a simple bead!) I have set the 870 back and use it SOLELY for turkey hunting now. I dont want to ruin the patterning of this gun by running duckloads through it. I simply use other guns for ducks now.

GET SOME!!!

Red, where do you live here in Mo. I'm not to far from Ray and Shotgun Sandy?

Strut I live in Jackson, TN. My step-father owns a cattle operation in the Mtn. View, MO area. It is on the Howell, Oregon and Shannon County lines. We hunt it each spring as its eat up with turkeys like everywhere else in that part of MO. FANTASTIC hunting over there, if you are a local you are REALLY lucky! I hardly even hunt here in TN and MS (havent been around here in a couple years but plan on going this year!) because the hunting up there is SOOOOO much better than even the best days here in the sunny south!

Good luck,
RA

Determined,
If your gun and current choke does not put at least 220 pellets in a 10 inch circle at 40 yards you will benefit from the Rhino tube. My Mossy put 268 pellets in that 10" circle at a measured 40 yards on the range. I am completely sold.
I took two Rios, both at about 45 yards last April and they were stone dead. I did have a hard time judging distance in that more open country and that choke/load combo made my hunt very successful. The shortest set of spurs on the pair was a wickedly sharp set that were 1 5/16"!
