hello jloutbac, I'm not too far from you.
A couple of the call manufacturers (HS STrut is one) make a kit with a slate or glass call and a video on how to use it. I would suggest that to start. Only a few months until turkey season and that will probably get you making some decent sounds the fastest. Then you can experiment with other calls from there. Good Luck!

Most will tell you a box is the easiest to learn on, I build box calls and will have to disagree. Its my opinion that a good sounding slate is more readily avalable and will put the right sound, to that gobbler and in you. I don't think production boxcalls for the most part are realistic Turkey. Of course the right Gobbler on the right day will fall for a nail and a rusty bucket. I aint that lucky thow.
Rent a few vidios, don't swallow everything they're sellin. Most get too agresive for my liken, but will be helpful in getting the proper sound.
Most important, DON'T PRACTISE ON THE BIRDS BEFORE SEASON.

turkey calling takes alot of practice, their alot of calls on the market, i would say a slate is the easiest, buy you a combo pack to start out with,it'll have different one with it,with turkey hunting, some days none of them will work, also get you a crow call, i've use it to locate a turkey when nothing else would work, good luck.
