Turkey Hunting Whether it's spring or fall doesn't matter to this bunch. Great tips on calling, bustin flocks, using blinds and more.

Default Trying to summon up the courage to shoot

I am trying to summon up the courage to shoot my dad's 12 gauge. For Turkey, I have always used the 20 gauge, But now I am starting to outgrow that and by this spring, I will be able to shoulder the 12. My dad has a real nice Benelli locked up that he has never shot before and he wants me to use it for spring turkey. I have shot his 30-30 at the range before and had no problem with the recoil. Can the 12 gauge recoil with a 3" Magnum Turkey Load be comparable to that of the 30-30? I can almost shoulder his Mossberg and the Benelli.

A 3" 12 gauge load, depending on what it is will more than likely boot more than the dirty thirty. Take the 12 out, start shooting with light trap loads, then move up gradualy, till you get a feel for it. Find the load your most comfortable with. Good luck.

i totally agree, i used to think"oh no, i have to shoot again", i dreaded it, but with each shot it got better and better and now that is gun of choice, i use it for everyting, duck, squirrel, hogs, turkey , deer, etc.
you could always shoot a muzzy 150 grain, lol....it knocks me on my butt everytime, but shooting the 12 seems likes a bbgun after that
you'll love it before long, you can do it[8D]

I shoot the .30-.30 for deer and find the 12 more of a kick with Turkey. Having said that it scared my wife for bird hunting and she always used the .410. I convinced her to shoot it and it was no problemo.

Very versatile as Ma said. Use it for sure. You'll learn to love it.
