Turkey Hunting Whether it's spring or fall doesn't matter to this bunch. Great tips on calling, bustin flocks, using blinds and more.

Default Closest Encounter With A Live Turkey

Week Ago Was Sitting On A Field Waiting For Some Turkeys And Nothing Was Answering. I Wiped Out My Box Cutter And Said Heres The Problem I Didnt Use This. I Called And Said Now Well See Some Action.. 30 Seconds Later I Said But I Never Said When The Action Is.

Well Not A Minute Later A Hen Came Out Picking An Grinning And A Car Went By A Ways Away And She Kinda Started Heading Off The Field She Was Heading Towards Me. She Stoped And Started Picking Then She Was Out There And I Was Set Up Behind A Log In The Air About A Foot And A Lil Trail That My Legs Were Across,And My Friend Was Next To Me Against A Tree As I Was.

Well The Hen Picked A Whle And Started Leaving And Was Heading Towards Me.[&:] I Had The Urge To Laugh...But Didnt..She Kept Working Her Way Towards Me And Then Kinda Stop And Looks And Then Keeps Going... Then She Stops And Looks At Me And She Was Maybe 4-5 Ft Away And Never Noticed Me Till She Got Right To Me. I Stood Still Hoping For Her To Cross My Legs And Then Putt....Purrrrr...Put Put.Put Purrrrr.
Then Slowly Folowed The Edge Of The Field.

I Couldnt Believe How Close She Got To Me..
Turkeys Can Be So Smarty/Lucky Yet Sometimes Really Dumb As She Was lol

my closest was when I was working a nice long beard with one hen with him.they came out into an open hammock to where i was. the hen feeding towards me,with the gobbler behind her.
There was a BIIIIG log about 6 to 8' from me,they were on the other side of the log.the hen came around the log to my calling with tom boy behing gobbling all the time.I had one leg laying flat with the other up with my gun resting on my knee.
The hen came around the log and looked at me ; I had my head down low on the stock, had my head net on.she walked and looked and looked.then she just walked fast past me.she walked within 2' of my foot.she walked on past and the gobbler stuck his head up over the log, that was his last mistake.

it's the most amazin' thing i have ever been blessed seein' during turkey hunting......ok, the 2nd best, lol....my first gobbler was coming up from behind, it was literally 3 feet away from me.....he was drummin, struttin, when he got beside me , he stopped and BALALALALALALALALAA , scared the blankey blank right out of me, i wanted to jump out of my skin, but i knew i would lose him if i did...but i managed to keep what composure i had to get him by me and the rest is history.....i've had hens within 4-5 feet during gun season, i love to see how close they can get before they bust me, lol....

Had a similiar situation with a hen, ...she was in the field, we setup and after a couple purrs I had her standing 2 ft from my boot.....it was spectacular...she walked off never picking us out....

But my closest was in the fall. I was heading for my evening stand when I saw the heads coming over the knoll....an entire flock, roughly 20 birds or so were heading right at me and a week early for fall turkey season so I simply stood motionless....as they hit the logging road I was standing on I pulled my bow tight against my chest and put my head down...they walked single file right past me within mere inches as if I didn't exist until I tweeked my head to see and the forest erupted in feathers....LOL, I ducked and covered...LOL

ASAT Camo at it's best.

One time in SE Minnesota, I was hunting late season and bagged a gobbler the first morning that flew right down to me after gobbling on the roost for about 90 minutes. I stuck around that day and the next morning I went out in full camo with the camera to see if I could get some pictures. I was sitting in a meadow that had some trees scattered throughout with a steep hillside above it. I had one gobbling on the hillside and he flew down so I laid down behind a small tree/shrub to wait him out. Then two more gobblers sounded off down the meadow and I looked out to see two white heads bobbing thru the meadow towards me. I froze and put my head down as I didn't want to spook them. I could hear them coming now and they walked right up to me. Then they continued around my tree and the one gobbler stepped on my boot as he walked by. I turned my head and he flew up right there and landed about 10 yards down the meadow on a dead run. That was pretty cool but unfortunately I didn't get a picture...

When I first got into turkey hunting I went out before the seaon and called in 2 jakes. They came into 3-4 feet of me. I thought turkey hunting was going to be a piece of cake. I got a rude awakening when opening day arrived!!!!

I've seen this happen before ,for a bird who's eyesight is supposed to be so sharp you wonder some times how they could get so close without seeing you.
