Default Can you spell BUSTED !

Well guys, I thought I had me one. Was at my lease Sat. AM before the sun came up, and put out the decoys. Hit my slate call about 15 min. later to let the toms know I was off the roost. A few clucks and soft tree yelps, and BAM,got a gobble back at me. Hit it again, BAM,he gobbles at me again. Couldn't tell where he was coming from, so I sat back and hoping he would come to me. An hour later, still nothing, so I picked up my box call, hit it one time, and here he goes again, hit my box call one time, and he gobbles back again. This time it was loud. It was echoing, so I couldn't tell which direction it was coming from, and then all of sudden I see him in a beautiful full strut about 70 yards in front of me in a pasture. He struts for me for about 15 mins, me a purrin', cluckin, soft yelps, and couldn't get him to come to me to save my life. He finally went away from me over the hill, still in full strut. Never saw him again. About 15 mins. later I decided to see if I could cut him off. I moved about 50 yards under cover sat down and hit my call again. BAM, he's about 40 yrds from me but still can't see him. I move again to where I thought he was, about 10 more yards, sit down down, hit my call again , and BAM he is right on top of me. I was 10 yards away from a cliff and hardwoods. I look to my left, his head pops up over the top of this ridge, and we make eye to eye contact. BUSTED ![:@] He takes off, sounding a warning call to all of his buddies, I look up and there goes about 8-9 of them getting the heck out of dodge. It was fun, exciting, but I learned a valuble lesson. Next time I will set up a little different. But that is why they call it Hunting !

Sounds like a great hunt though! Next time he is coming in don't call he will probably come on in. When you call he'll go into strutt and stay put.

I feel for you. I got busted twice on Saturday! I think I lost the staring contest I was having with that jake. Hang in there!
