Turkey Hunting Whether it's spring or fall doesn't matter to this bunch. Great tips on calling, bustin flocks, using blinds and more.

Default Seat/stools for Turkey hunting

Need some suggestions! I use a stool for turkey hunting, and because of arthiritis I extended the legs about 6 inches, which helps. Our season opened on Mar. 20th, and after hunting just about every day since, I'm taking a few days off because my back and legs are killing me.

Can any of you recommend a seat that would be comfortable for a wore out hunter.

Thanks,
dog1

I've got the same problem, but probably not as bad. You may already be doing this, but I use the thin cushion on my vest to go between me and the tree. Then I carry another one to support my lower back while I sit on the stool. I can hunt a lot longer that way. But, you do need to take a day or 2 off every now and then.

Well guys......I can help....

I have a few seats/chairs I use and will take pics today.

One is a market seat I bought from NWTF. One side of legs is shorter than the other side.

That way you can place next to a tree and keep a level seat. I also carry a Stearns (ensolite foam) boat cushion. To the cushion I add any old gym bag strap and hook it to each handle of the boat cushion. It can be slung over a shoulder right quick.

My all day chair is a steel framed beach chair I bought and repainted. It don't matter what color it is as you spray it any old drab color. I also add my boat cushion to that and this is my blind chair.

Now I have a few stools/other chairs and blinds to which I use on occasion but the above two I use constatnly. First one allows me to Run N Gun and the other is my all day sitter.

And I take Celebrex!

Pictures to come.

JW!

Been waiting on you to reply. I definitely need your pics on the seats.

(Celebrex don't cut it for me anymore, just living with it now.) The younger bunch will understand one day, don't you think.

Well here is my assortment of chairs and stools.

[From left to right]
I have a 3 legged stool
I have a beach chair
I have 4 legged stool
and then the low angled seat.
Also pictured is my camo boat cushion.

My Beach chair
Is a steel framed chair I just sprayed with any flat spray paint. Pictured in front are Avery 12 and 6 foot rag blinds that work very nicely with this chair. I also use my boat cushion as it get me eye level of the blind.

Here is the chair and blind set-up. I carry a Avery blind at all times as they fit in my vest back pocket.
Now I am looking down at it. At ground level most times you don't even need a head net.

The chair and boat cushion.

Now this is soemthing I do not run and gun with. This chair is for a permanent set-up.

This is my run and gun stool or seat. I also use my boat cushion.

Now I am working on another blind I found in a bargain bin. Only 30 bucks at K-mart.

This needed windows cut to which I added and now am adding velcro to help close them or close part of them.

This is the chair I'll use.

Add a boat cushion tothat and I can sit for hours.

In addition to this I use a Buck Lick vest that has a very sturdy stadium chair added in the vest. I hardly ever use the seat but I have found I use it for for back support. That added with a boat cushion and that low seat I have a chair/seat/stool for every occsaion.

I have another blind that I have not pictured and it is the Umbrella pop-up blind. Ihave used this in open alphalfa fields during rains storms with pretty good success.

Most of what I posted yes in fact will slow you down except for that seat and boat cushion deal I use.

Yes I run and gun more times than not. But if you can't sit still you can't kill that bird.

The other things are for areas runnin and gunnin just don't work.

Another thing - that beach chair is steel framed - aluminum ones just don't hold up to a 250 guy!

And I have no use for a ATV - though I do hunt green fields.
