Default I need some advice

I went scouting this morning and found they are doing some active logging (dozers, chain saws, the whole nine yards but not clear cutting) not more than a quater mile from my top hunting spot. [:@] They won't be coming much closer because the rest is private land that they don't have access to but they sure are making a lot of noise. I saw a few hen tracks and some scratchings but I was wondering if anyone has run into this situation and might have some advice on how it will affect the birds?

I actually hunted a 27 acre property 2 years ago that was being logged. Not clear cutted, but dozers, trucks, ect, ect. Since the logging operation usually didn't start until later in the morning and were gone well before dark, I found that the turkeys still roosted on that property despite all the commotion from the logging operation. I didn't kill on that property that year, but it wasn't because the birds were gone. In fact, I found that the birds would work the newly made roads quite regularly searching for bugs, ect.

Good luck,

Thanks for the information. This isn't my only place to hunt this spring but I was hoping to take my son there for the youth season. I do have a question though, was the 27 acres the only place the turkeys had to go? In this case they have there choice of a few thousand acres and I am afraid they will just move on to some place more quiet.

There was alot of different areas the birds could have re-located to, but for whatever reason, they didn't go too far. The logging usually didn't start until 7 or 8 in the morning and was over with by 4 or 5 in the evening and it seemed like the birds came in after the logging was over for the day and roost there, then be out of the area before the logging started again. Like I said, it almost seemed like they came back each night just to scratch along the newly made logging roads. The roads were torn up each day and seemed to have an abundance of worms and other bugs in them.

Good luck to you and your son this season!!

Once we had some loggin goin' on while we where there hunting. A logging trcuk came in to pick up logs and I knew my buddy was working down this one trail so I stopped there. Didn't matter to the logger as he went down farther to use his picker.

Well long story short.....I heard no gobbles none......the guy fired up his truck and when he picked up the loggin clams and they banged against the truck.....all the woods broke loose!

There where two toms who gobbled none stop. My buddy scratched a few calls and they came runnin as if to race each other. Teh front one was a faster runner but the back began to fly. Both stopped right in front of my buddy and he picked out the biggest.

We talk about that lots of times. He ahd heard no gobbles that morning until those metal log picking clams hit the side of the truck.

it was that sound that turned them on.
