Turkey Hunting Whether it's spring or fall doesn't matter to this bunch. Great tips on calling, bustin flocks, using blinds and more.

Default New Mexico Turkeys

Is any one planning to hunt the Gila Forest in New Mexico this spring?

Wife and I are heading to New Mexico in a couple weeks to find some big merriams. Wife is hoping for her first bird and I want to add to the slam collection. Anyone have current forest conditions, effects of all the snow and rain, current turkey activity, good areas to try, techniques that work to find the birds, etc. Any info is greatly appreciated. If you'll be out there hunting, maybe we can hook up and trade stories.

White Hunter, I answered over in the Big Game section. I work for the Forest Service out of Glenwood and would be glad to help and meet some other hunters. Never hunted Turkeys before but will give it a try. I see them all the time and our Wildlife biologist was telling me where he's been seeing them. Send me a message with your e-mail and I'll get back with you.

Email didn't work...Here's what I sent you Rambopacker...

I'm not looking to move in on your area. Just looking for general information. What are the forest conditions....wet, dry, etc? Are the turkeys gobbling? When is the typical breeding period? What type of terrain have you and others been seeing the birds....elevation, vegetation, food source, water source, etc? Any info would be great.
