NWTF has a CD and it has good examples of drummin, a jake who can't quite gobble and lots of hen yelps.

I listen to that CD all the time. You need to lsiten close as the drumiin' starts at a distance but does get louder. sounds to me like a Shpiiit Vroom! hehe

You may never have heard one drum before but when you hear it....you will know what it is. The first longbeard I ever called in was also the first I ever heard drum. He gobbled about 150 yards out of sight 3 times. Then, entered a pine thicket. I heard him drumming loudly at about 90 yards and told my buddy to listen to him drum up in those pines, and sure enough he walked right out of where we heard out first drumming come from. So just because you have never heard it, doesn't mean you won't be able to indentify it. If you know what sounds are natural in the woods then you will be able to pick out a longbeard drumming pretty easily. And if you hear him drumming...HE IS CLOSE so get ready.

Bama,

One thing is for certain...you will feel the drumming in your chest, like a good percussion instrument, long before you will hear it.

The resonance will get deeper, the pitch lower and the hairs on the back of your neck will rise as the indistinguishable sound grows in intensity.

When their on their way in, in strut spittin' & drummin', I merely close my eyes and feel the sound in my chest.

That sound and intensity is comparable to only the opening morning's first gobble and the year's first wood thrush whistle...

Keep listening, and tell gobblinbuck to get you a bird....

There is no doubt about it, once you hear one drum withing 20 yards of you, every bit of you hair is standing up on your back. Thats by far one of the most exciting things to hear. Because you know if you can hear it loudly he is close.

I had a neat drumming experience from this morning's scouting. I went to the woods and got to my listening spot a half an hour before dark. Just as I sat down a longbeard about 50 yards away began to spit and drum. He did this for about 20 minutes before he began gobbling at daybreak. I have never heard of a turkey spitting and drumming that early and not mixing in some gobbles. I mean it was pitch black for 20-30 minutes while he drummed his heart out.

By the way, CallwithLegacy-

Do you work with Legacy, because ya'll make my favorite mouth call- The Lady's Night. I also have prized possesion which is good and the split v 4 reeded one. I love them. You guys make some great mouth calls.

No I dont work for Legacy. But there isnt a call in my vest except for 2 that arent legacy. The mouth calls are untouched in sound and quality. They are making good slates and good boxes. You need to try to new one they got called the Wild Hunter.
