Default What do you do?

What do you do when your turkey hunting buddy is BAD LUCK? Me and bamabuck27 have been chasing long beards for 2 seasons now and we've failed to connect on a bird while he's with me. I've taken 3 birds when by myself, but when we are both in the woods, we always seem to get busted or something happens that keeps him from getting his first bird. Now everyone's first thought is that I may be hogging the "good spots" but that simply isn't true. I can say it is harder to guide someone than it is to hunt alone. You have to explain your game plan. Now 'ole bamabuck27 needs some words of encouragement from you guys.................I'm running out of things to say. The last 10 or so trips has ended in "its gonna happen, maybe next time." That is just dis-heartening. So come on guys, pump him up. He's a good hunting buddy so none of the get a new one type suggestions.

Say I know what you mean as I have hunted with one guy 17 years and have yet to see him kill a bird. Oh I tag along but never see the shot!

He has been with me and has seen me shoot lots of times.

Might have him try going by himself. A lot easier to get one with only 1 person to worry about. Just a thought. Or go where there are more birds and/or less hunting pressure.

Can't be the set-up. I called in 3 birds within 25yds from him last year and he never took a shot. Well, it may be the set-up, he was in a prone position facing 90degrees from where I told him the birds were.

Most of the time I call. He'll throw a yelp or two in every now and then.

I've been guilty of moving at the wrong time on one or two occasions, but the birds weren't in sight until they putted.

Now ya'll don't get me wrong here, I've got to give the 'ole boy a hard time. We work and hunt together and just haven't been able to connect on a long beard while hunting. He's a good feller, he took the pics of my bird this year. That wouldn't be that big of a deal, but he decided to go home and sleep after work and I went huntin'. I woke him up to take the pics and he didn't even get mad at me.

Get a portable ground blind and set it up and sit together behind it at the same tree when you encounter a gobbler you want to hunt. Leave your gun at home. He'll kill his first.

Well if you are calling......and I bet you do.....sit right next to him....same tree.....I was wondering that if you call and even a tree apart can make all the difference.

Just my 2 cents...what ever it is worth.....not tended to offend.

So, maybe your bad luck for him? Have you ever thought of it that way?
