Turkey Hunting Whether it's spring or fall doesn't matter to this bunch. Great tips on calling, bustin flocks, using blinds and more.

Default 835 guys

ok i want to know how you guys have your 835's set up? open sights or scope? factory choke or different? what your pattern is like?

i use open sights w/ the factory choke and can easily drop a longbeard at 40 yds

I have an 835 with what I think is a 24" barrell. Stock choke. I shoot Winchester Supreme HV #5's. I average around 3 or 4 in the kill at 40 yards. Fiber optic dot sights.

I have a 835 and I mounted a Simmons 2X scope on it. Love the scope. I use a Hastings .685 choke and have great patterns using 3.5" Winchester HV 4's and 3.5" Remington HV Hevi-shot #5's. If you have no trouble dropping a longbeard at 40 yards with your setup---not sure you need to change anything---but if you are like me---I like to fool around each year in search of the dream pattern. I'm am also not sure the dream pattern is a soft ball size pattern at 40 yards since I would also like to have a little room for error for closer in shots.

Simmons Pro diamond 4X scope on top and a Tru Glo choke out front. I use Winchester HV #6 in 3.5 inch, they kick like a mule but give the best results. Getting ready to take it out and pattern it. It has been a few years since the last time I had it on the pattern board, but I do remember that it was deadly at 40 yrds.

Well I shot it testing different loads. I was not impressed with it, in fact I wanted mt 500 that I traded it for.

The barrel finish was rough and I noticed that the choke was not concentric with the bore of the barrel. Then I polished out the barrel in hopes of getting a better pattern. And to see if I could get the edge of the choke under the bore ID so the wad/shot didnt snag on it. It looks like it worked, I do have a better pattern. Still not the best, but alot better then before.

I still have the option of trading back for my 500, but since I killed a turkey last weekend, Im starting to like this 835

Bought mine last year. Camoed, ported barrel, fiber optic sights on a 24" barrel. I put a Rhino choke in it and shoot the Nitro Hevi-shot loads in 2 1/4oz..
That load puts 268 pellets in a 10" circle at 40 yards. Shoots a good dense pattern at that range about the size of a basketball.
About a 8" pattern at 25 yards and about 6" at 15. Tight but not too tight. Close ranges are about like Win. lead I shot last season in it.

Bought my 835 as a camo combo. Turkey barrel is 24". I polished the inside of the barrel, installed a H.S. Undertaker Hevi-Shot choke, installed a set of Tru-Glo Magnum Gobble Dot Sights, and shoot Remington #5 Hevi-Shot 3 1/2" magnums. She'll put 20-25 pellets in the head and neck ara at 40 yards. Also installed a Sims Limb Saver recoil pad. That baby really takes the sting out.

On my 835 I use a comp n choke xxxfull chocke on a 24" barrell, I'm shooting 3 1/2 Win HV#6. At 40 yard I get 8 -12 in kill zone. It's top off with a Bushnell Trophy red dot with a Sim Limb Saver recoil pad. Shot my frist turkey with this set up last spring at a little under 20 yards lets just say it was devastating I now know were the term jelly head comes from.

Hey everyone. I've done a few things to my 835. First off, I had it ported as it didn't come ported from the factory. Sent it out to magna port a few years back. I have a Leupold 1-4 power scope with burlap tied on for camo. It sits on a saddle type scope mount. There's a Hastings choke on the end - don't remember the restriction. The gun patterns real nice out to 40 yards - I'm very happy with it.
