Turkey Hunting Whether it's spring or fall doesn't matter to this bunch. Great tips on calling, bustin flocks, using blinds and more.

Default 835 Stock Turk Choke or aftermarket choke

In getting to know my 835, I was using Winchester supreme 3 inch #4's at 35 yards. With nothing to compare the pattern to, I am looking for some advice on the many aftermarket chokes for skeet and turkey.

What aftermarket chokes work better than what comes with the gun?

Thanks for your wisdom. This is a great site!

Lastly, anyone ever had trouble getting #3 & #4 shell in the barrell? After two shells, it will not allow me to push anymore in. The people at Mossberg have not responded to my email question after several days.

Thanks.

An aftermarket choke should tighten up your patterns at the further distances.

I just patterned my mossberg choke against a Comp-n-Choke XXX w/ Winchester 3 1/2 inch shells of #6. I'd recommend going to a smaller shot size as you tighten the choke constriction. Typically what you might lose on penetration - you gain on tighter pattern.

At 20 yards, both were devastating.
At 30 yards, mossberg choke was good. CNC better.
At 40 yards, mossberg pattern was sparce. CNC hands down awesome.

I agree the comp-n-choke in my 835 greatly impproved my pattern over the stock turkey choke.

Did you check to see if there was a plug in the barrel?Unscrew the cap where the sling mount is and see if there is a wooden plug in there.

I checked, checked twice, and damn near took the entire gun apart. It was only after my third check, that I found the "Chopstick" sized plug. What the heck?

Thanks for telling me to take the end off otherwise, I would be still scratching my head!
