Default Remington express xtra long range

Has anyone tried the Remington express xtra long range 2 3/4" #5 or #6 loads in 12 ga or 20 ga for turkey? i picked up a few boxes to try out just wondering if it has enough power at 30 yards or less.

There is more than just the power of the round involved. You must have a gun choked to shoot a tight pattern at the distance you want to shoot. Some shells shoot well and give a good pattern in one gun and different gun with the same choke and shells will not give a good pattern. you cannot ask for an answer to your question and get an accurate answer. You must try the shells in your gun or guns at the ranges you want shoot. Any 12 or 20 gauge will shoot to 30 yards and further, however, will it shoot a pattern tight enough to kill and not cripple is the question, only test firing at a pattern board will tell you that.

Buy some Winchester Longbeard XR. It has been an extremely long time since I shot any Rem shells.

Usually 2 3/4" shells have more velocity than 3" shells. They would then have more "power". However they have less pellets.

That's what I use for squirrels #6 shot both in a 12 and 20 ga 2 3/4". Have killed a couple fall turkeys with both the longest was about 30 yards.

I seriously doubt that you're using turkey loads for squirrels!

Alright thanks guys, i figured it would be powerful enough cause the velocity is higher than the 3" shells i have but i guess i am more worried about the shot count, but since i got #5 in 3" and #6 in 2 3/4" i would imagine their shot count is equivalent to each other, gonna get out this weekend to pattern and hope to have good results,

Good luck and happy hunting.

You'll be fine with the 2 3/4" loads as long as they pattern decent in your gun. I've never used anything but 2 3/4" loads with #5 or #6 shot and have never had a problem killing birds out to 40 yards. The punch is there as long as you can get a decent number of pellets in the head/neck zone.
