Turkey Hunting Whether it's spring or fall doesn't matter to this bunch. Great tips on calling, bustin flocks, using blinds and more.

Default Spring turkey picture

I was out tonight looking for sign of turkey but found just a few tracks and no other sign. The place I hunt has high grass due to not having it grazed the last few years. My question is will this high grass and 2 to 2 1/2 high effect hunting this spot? There is usually birds in this area along the river.

Thanks

Nice pic sucks about the access though. I have a few spots like that near me where the landowner won't allow access !

Since you edited your original post I will edit my response ! In the area I hunt there is a lot of winter wheat planted. In the fields that have this winter wheat which looks like high green grass in the spring I rarely see turkeys hanging out there. They seem to go to the yet unplanted bare fields.

I think you should try once. You will find sign later. I think 2 to 2 1/2 high grass is not enough for turkeys, but it can be a good area for them.

2-2 1/2, feet or inches? is it thick or sparse? If it's 2+ feet of thick grass, you'll have better luck finding turkeys elsewhere. They will move through tall grass, to another area where they can see a threat coming. Hens my nest in the edges of tall & thick stuff though. If something spooks them, they'll hide in tall grass

If there's any places near the area, that are getting grazed, I'd check there and along any roads or trails that cut through the grass.

Yes the grass is 2 1/2 feet tall but not thick. I did see a jake the other night but not much activity right in that area. This is land just above the river with farmed field. I'm set up along a dirt farm trail. It is an ideal spot in the past but no grazing as done last year.
