See if you can find someone that has a pistol grip shotgun and give it a try. I like them both.

I have the 535 that I won at our WhiteTails Unlimited banquet last year and my dad, at 73yrs old, took his first turkey at 47yds this past spring. DOA!!!!!! No flop, just drop!!! 3" Hevi-13's in 6's. Using the Moss. XX tube that came with it. That and the fiber optic sights. A guy and his son here at work has used it to take 4 this past year as well. Closest was 7 yds and the longest was 56yds. All with the same tube and shells. I have yet to see a bird with it!!!!!

i would get a model without a pistol grip because of mossbergs tang safey. could be difficult to switch with a pistol grip.

Let us know how it patterns when you shoot it... I'd be curious how it does at 40 yards...

I like remingtons, turkeys dont lol. I've got 3 of them and they all throw great patterns out to and past 40 yards with plain ol hv copper lead shot...

Do they both have the accutrigger knock off? That's a big benefit on a tight shooting turkey gun IMO.

Our qdma branch bought a 535 for a banquet that has a slug barrel and and a turkey barrel, full camo with a imitation accutrigger on it for $416 delivered. I'm not even a mossberg guy, but I want it!

RPD,

I just purchased my first gun. Its the Mossberg 535 Tactical Turkey. It comes with the threaded 20in barrel and a XX Turkey Choke. Im curious as to which type's of choke and shot your friends use @ 40yrds. Specifically everything about each in as much detail as possible. Could you ask them? I would like to get a good user impression before I spend alot of money each testing them out.

This question also pertains to anyone else out there also. Some highlights about myself. This is my first gun (purchase) and first turkey experience. I am an old deer hunter but my knowledge of shotguns, chokes, shell variations and distance are zilch.

It would be great if I could find choke and shell (shot size #, manufacture, lead/copper/steel weight) and pattern information related to this gun for 3in shells. I hope this makes sense, if not just let me know.
