Default Crossbow broadhead for turkeys

Hi all,

I am allowed to shoot turkey at my location with a crossbow. The broadhead requirement is that i use a broadhead with a minimum of 7/8 inch cutting.

I usually use Excalibur Boltcutters with 1 1/16 cutting for deer so technically I could use these for turkey also.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

G.

Make sure they are good and sharp, take broadside shots and keep in mind your kill area is about an inch under the upper side of the wing and closer to the front than the back.
There is a good possibility that if you miss the vitals, the head or take front on or rear shots you blow through the bird and it takes off without a trail to follow.

I just use the head I use for deer and everthing else. I use the NAP 100 gr thunderhead. I would say use the head you have if it works good for you. Like was posted the kill zone is small. I watched some youtube video and alot of body shots seemed to result in lost birds, however neck hits seemed to be quick recoveries. I am no expert I have only shot 2 birds with my crossbow. I aimed for the base of the neck I figure if I miss no harm done it should be a clean miss. The two I shot one dropped immediately and didn't move. The other ran about 60 yds and tipped over.
