Turkey Hunting Whether it's spring or fall doesn't matter to this bunch. Great tips on calling, bustin flocks, using blinds and more.

Default Recommendations for choke and shells for Mossberg 500

Hey all,

I'm going to try turkey hunting this year for the first time ever, after around 15 years of whitetail hunting. I'm going to pattern my shotgun on Sunday, wondering if anyone could recommend a certain choke and shells for a Mossberg 500?

Anyone use a Mossberg 500 that can clue me in to what they use?

Thanks!

Indian Creek and Pure Gold choke tubes in the .660-.670 range with Hevi 13 3" 2oz of #7's or #6's have done well for me.

+1

About any aftermarket 'turkey' or 'X-Full' choke will help your pattern, just make sure you use lead shot unless the choke you get is rated for steel or heavier-than-lead. If you shoot lead, try the black Winchester Supreme #6's. They've patterned great out of every Mossberg I've shot them through.

Indian Creek's, Black Diamond Strike choke is pretty much recognized and THE best custom choke available!! They are amazing!!!

30 yards is a good starting point for your zero and then play with the other ranges to see how the weapon performs. That should keep ya in the game at 40 to 50 yards with the right choke/load combo.

Good luck and good shootin'

Stonewall, check out the 'sticky' post on patterning turkey guns. It's very informative.
