Turkey Hunting Whether it's spring or fall doesn't matter to this bunch. Great tips on calling, bustin flocks, using blinds and more.

Default Mossburg 835...What length barrel?

Ready to pruchase one but I am researching barrel lengths. My son has a 20" bbl and his is wicked killing birds 50yds + I'm sure..

I can get a 24" bbl at a great price...

Given the same ammo same chokes...would there be much difference in the patterning?

I have a 535 and it is 21" I think, but the choke adds 2" to it and I have a great pattern at 40yds. The 24" won't make a difference I feel.

Shorter barrels make for a lighter more maneuverable gun which can be important when you are turkey hunting and doing a lot of walking around in the woods, but any length will kill a turkey....

I like a longer barrel over a shorter barrel. They will tend to shoot a tad better. But it's up to you. The most popular turkey barrel is probably 24".

I have a 28" barrel on my 835. I shoot Hevi-13 #7's with a Star Dot choke. Here's one of my better patterns that it has shot at 40yds.

I have a 535 with a 20" barrel and it shoots some awesome patterns with Hevi-13 and my Indian Creek choke. It even shoots slugs great at 50 yards with an improved cylinder choke. I love the short barrel when turkey hunting, but if you plan on ever using it for wingshooting I would get a longer barrel.

The advantage to a longer barrel is a longer sighting radius, thus more accurate shooting.
